Is it time to change jobs in 2016?

We’re at the pointy end of the year and it’s the perfect time to take a breather and reflect on the year that was. It’s easy to think about what we could do to improve our personal life like getting fitter, eat better, take up a new hobby but sometimes thinking about professional life can get pushed to the bottom of the list. 

Here are 3 questions you should ask yourself if it’s time to change jobs in 2016.

Feeling unmotivated? 

Does your working week consist of dreaming for the weekend and do you feel down on Sunday night knowing that Monday morning your back at work? These are some pretty strong signals that your current job isn’t inspiring you and it’s time to research some new job opportunities to get you loving Monday to Friday again. 

Have I done anything new recently?

Have you been given any different types of projects in your job or learnt anything new lately? If you have to think about it for a while it means that you probably haven’t.  Take the time to review your goals and speak with your manager to see if there are any other opportunities for you because it’s important to keep learning and growing in your role.

Is there a future here? 

Think about where you want to be in a year or two and ask yourself if this job is going to get you to that place you want to be. Does the job motivate you, challenge you, add valuable skills and experience to your resume? if it doesn’t align with your future goals it’s time to make a change and start developing your career. 

It’s really difficult to take a leap into a new job because even though we don’t enjoy our current one. We can get stuck because it’s safe and comfortable but don’t let comfort fool you, we only grow if we are challenged and constantly learning new skills. It’s the best time to start 2016 with a new job.
